The Gorica District in Berat is on the opposite bank of the Osum River from the Castle and Mangalem. It was founded in the 16th century as part of the expansion of the old town and was traditionally inhabited by the Christian population. It is connected with Mangalem by a stone bridge.
The houses of Gorica District are the most imposing in Berat and were inhabited by the local royalty. In the centre of the neighbourhood is the Church of St. Spiridon (Kisha e Shën Spiridhonit) from 1864.
The bridge dates back to 1780 but was completely rebuilt in the 1920s. A pedestrian bridge connecting Gorica District with Mangalem was added in 2000.
